Farming is one of the few things left which still depends on the weather, the seasons, and the soil, and the people who are prepared to think about it and work it – almost all the time, often all their lives.

Agriculture in Suffolk has been populated by people of ingenuity – farmers, craftsmen and engineers who have invented and built machinery to help with the daily and yearly tasks. They have continually improved farming techniques and processes, and ways of doing things.

This book looks at the practices and mechanisation in the county over the last two hundred years or so, showing the changes that have taken place, and how mechanisation has affected farming, finishing with an almost day-to-day account of the activities on a Suffolk farm in 2023-2024.
