A Hickling Marshman’s Diary
of reed and sedge cutting in the 1980s.




Gerald Nudd  (1940-1999)
kept a day-to-day diary
between 1980 and early
1987 mainly of what he saw of the wildlife around him while reed and sedge cutting in the Hickling, Horsey, Brograve, Brayden and Blackfleet Broad area of East Norfolk. 
In fact there is a lot more in the diaries – including helping friends and colleagues, looking after an eel set and going fishing off the Norfolk coast.
Here is a selection from the diaries including one full year of 1983.
